One of the oldest restaurants in London's Theatreland, Kettner's is a French restaurant with a frisky reputation, founded in 1867 by Auguste Kettner, a former chef to Napoleon III. After a recent refurbishment, the 140-odd-year-old Kettner’s has now been completely re-styled and blends modern with vintage with shabby chic and kitsch touches throughout. Cheap pizzas are now off the menu and have been repalced with more traditional French fayre, all prepared skillfully and executed with flair and imagination. Expect the likes of fillet of sea bass, olive oil, tomato & basil, pork belly, calvados caramel apples and wilted greens, steak tartare or braised beef Bourguignon. Kettner's is a great choice of restaurant if you’re looking to impress a date with a sophisticated drink. And if all that alcohol enhances your sweet tooth, don’t miss the Pudding Room in the room adjoining the restaurant.

I booked the Studio private room at Kettner's for a hen party last weekend and we had the best time. We started off with cocktails in the lovely Apartment bar - the barman was brilliant and made us lots of special cocktails and charmed all us girls. The Studio was beautiful, and such a rarity to find a room where you can seat 35 all on one long table - saves on the politics of who is on the 'Hens' table! Food was delicious, service superb, great night all round. Would definitely recommend.

Superb welcome & service. Food excellent. Steak & Guiness pudding from Table de Jour menu to die for! Good puddings and French tarts. Wine expensive at £6 a glass. Good decor and ambience. Bustling without being noisy. Handy for theatre-land. Fully recommended
